Rocky Mountain News - 08/24/95 JUDGES REFUSED HEARING ON BOULDER RAID by Karen Abbott, Rocky Mountain News staff writer. Two federal judges refused a request for emergency hearings while documents were being seized from a Church of Scientology critic in Boulder, a lawyer said Wednesday. Attorney David Lane, representing Larry Wollersheim for the American Civil Liberties Union, said Denver U.S. District Court judges Lewis Babcock and John Kane refused his telephone pleas Tuesday. "Neither one of them could be bothered to give Mr. Wollersheim so much as a hearing," Lane said. Babcock issued an order Monday allowing Scientology officials, accompanied by U.S. marshals, to conduct a suprise raid at Wollersheim's Boulder apartment Tuesday and take any materials they though appropriate. The church claims Wollersheim was about to disseminate copyrighted church scriptures on his computer bulletin board and the Internet. Church attorney Helena Kobrin said proper legal steps were followed.
