As far as I can tell, the "Know To Mystery Scale" is completely
unexplained.

The question was asked, "How can any condition below Death exist?"
The answer lies on pp. 61-62. It is unclear whether this is from
"The Auditor," No. 60, from "Science of Survival," p. 91, or newly
written for the VMH.

"Man is such a composite of beings that he has a few positions 
on the Tone Scale... Then, he was on the Tone Scale at an entirely 
different level as a thetan... We find out that we can plot the 
thetan on the Tone Scale independently. We find out that he is 
usually clear below zero. 

"And we can trace the social-educational strata which we can 
trace all the way through this way: "He went to Eton," which is 
merely a position on the Tone Scale...

"So we have the thetan on the Tone Scale and we have the body 
on the Tone Scale and then we have this position on the Tone 
Scale which was gotten because of the interaction of these two 
facts. So there are actually three places where a person could 
be on the Tone Scale."

Now, remember, if this isn't perfectly clear to you, it's because you
went past a word you didn't understand!

It is also interesting to note that Hubbard associated "Serenity
of Beingness" with "Shouting," as he refers to "Tone 40 Command"
in BTB 22 May 1971R, "TR 8, Tone 40 On An Object," VMH, p. 128 
[brackets indicate my insertions]:

"Have him command the [ashtray] in the loudest possible voice he
can muster. This is called shouting."


Since one of the provisions of fair use is parody and satire, my 
parody of this wonderful piece of technology follows. I'm sure
others could do better.
