Recommendation from Representative Robert M. Ford,
1 May 1941

----------------------------------------

This truly extraordinary document is signed by Robert M. Ford - the signature is quite genuine - but was actually written by L. Ron Hubbard. The two men were old friends, living near each other in Bremerton, Washington, and before Ford was elected to the House of Representatives the two families would regularly visit each other, go on fishing trips, etc.

Ford was asked about the document in 1986 (see chapter 5 of Bare-Faced Messiah). He replied:

"I don't know why Ron wanted a letter. I just gave him a [signed] letter-head and said, "Hell, you're the writer - you write it!" "
As such, it's one of the earliest surviving autobiographical statements by L. Ron Hubbard and sums up his view of himself at the age of 30. The egomania (and lack of regard for factual accuracy) so apparent in later life is visible in abundance here.
