ISOC award Yesterday, I received the ISOC Award 2006 in the section 'Security and privacy' for my research on electronic patient files (see Medische geheimen). I'm really happy, yet more because the timing is wonderful - just this week, I started working again after surgery and four months of chemotherapy. And thank you very much, XS4ALL, for making this book and this research possible!

ISOC's press release - with a picture of me gazing in awe at the award :) - can be found here; the full jury report is webbed here.

The winner will be announced on September 12 2006, in Eindhoven.

The Dutch Supreme finally ruled on Scientology vs Spaink and XS4ALL. The previous ruling still holds, and we are free: no more appeals, no more law suits. Liberated at last! For details, see XS4ALL's website.

Unfortunately, Kim died. She was born on leap day in 1984, and had been with me ever since she was a six week old kitten. She got to be 21 years, 4 months and 18 days. She will be missed and remembered.
